Tuesday night, The Smashing Pumpkins - one of my boyfriend's fave bands, so I was not über enthused in the first place though I do like some of the material. Stood 2nd row centre at first but after the second song I had to leave because I felt kind of out of place in the middle of the enthusiastic/mooshing crowd plus the sound in front of the stage was so bad I couldn't even tell if I knew the songs or not and it was LOOOUUUUDDDD. So had to leave the boyfriend and ended up in the back of the hall by the bar and in something that looked like the 30+ section Music still too loud (my hearing isn't completely back yet) during the full band songs - and a lot of the time it felt like a progMetal gig, lots of screaming guitar, screaming billy c and jimmy raping the drums a little - not exactly my kind of gig hee hee.. They did play some acoustic songs which were more enjoyable for mealthough the 30+ peublo got awfully distracted and chatty during the quieter songs - I don't know if it's an age thing with the shorter concentration span or what..
All in all it was a bit of a trial for me (especially for my ears and my feet) but it was kind of fun to have done it PLUS I got two free glasses of beer in my sandals, *thank you 30+ dances-with-beer-glass*

I went to the Rolling Stones concert last Wednesday in Hamburg! It was a really good show, they had a huge stage, fireworks etc.

City And Colour (Dallas Green). I saw him about a week and a half ago... it was a pretty good show only it got moved to malkin bowl which is an outside theatre rather than the orpheum which is inside. It got pretty cold as the concert went on.. and the opening band sucked... Attack In Black. They played for an hour as well as started 30 minutes late. They were nothing special. Then Dallas came on and only played for an Hour since they started 30 minutes late.. which kinda pissed me off... He did a lot of covers and played a few of his new songs that will be on his new CD this coming feb. I was disapointed with how many covers he did and that i didn't get to hear much of his actual stuff that i know... i probably won't be seen him again unless it's indoors, then there's a chance.

Last Monday evening, Mark Geary at the Troubadour, London...wonderfully intimate little venue with a lovely atmosphere, and worth every minute of the struggle to get through the next day at work due to extreme tiredness!!

PJ Harvey at the Orpheum in LA!!!!!! Amazing!!!!! Mixed set playing 4/5 songs from the new album on piano and lots of classics on guitar including the opener To Bring You My Love, plus Down by the Water, Send His Love to Me, Snake, Man Size, Angelene, Water and Rid of Me. I kinda like the new album but nothing compares to rock-PJ!!!!!!!!!!!

this is a clip of the opening song, To Bring you my love:

Monday 29th October, Ray LaMontagne - Guildhall, Southampton... Not the best venue I've heard Ray play, but still a lovely way to spend a Monday evening

The last live show I've seen was a Farm Aid concert by Willie Nelson & Bob Dylan, a few years ago. I don't get out much anymore

I saw Arcade Fire yesterday, in Stockholm! WOOPWOOP! They were, to say the least, awesome, and much better than last time in MArch!

WOOOT I'm going to see them tomorrow. They did cancel after the Sthlm show in March (right before the Cph gig ) so maybe Wim's illness put a lid on the show back then?

Yeah, I think that was definietely the reason. A few songs that were on the setlist then but they couldn't fulfill were performed, like intervention! You're going to have a great time, but make sure you stand in a really big, happy crowd so noone looks at you funny when you start jumping all over the place to Wake Up

Been to quite a few gigs recently.

Jose Gonzalez & Duke Special was about 3 weeks ago. Jose was brilliant but i was suprised to see he was the support act, especially due to the fact he was billed as the headliner. Duke special was awfull. I had previously seen him twice and this was more of a pantomime than a gig. Didnt quite get it... Duke average?

Then saw ian brown 2 days later and that was an incredible gig. He strolls out, spits and starts to shake his tamborine, classy guy! The crowd was great and it was my first ian brown gig so i was happy that he played all the oldies.

Next was Bloc Party in the same venue a week later. Biffy Clyro were support and i was really looking forward to finally seeing them, wasnt dissapointed!
Bloc party were great, one of the few bands id pay money to see live these days.

And then tonight is Tom McRae in Whelans. An artist who solely made me want to create music and write lyrics. Last time i saw him in the same venue 3-4 years ago was one of the most intimate and incredible gigs ive been to.
Hopefully this lives up to it..

Lucky you... I last saw Tom back in mid Sept. at The Living Room on the lower east side of Manhattan, a tiny venue in NYC... I'm very spoiled, having seen him many times at this venue, usually at the front center table quite literally three feet from him. Sadly, he has yet to break through in the States, but I do feel so privileged to experience such intimate gigs. He's a lovely man, a fantastic singer / songwriter, and quite witty. Hoping he makes it back across the pond again for another residency soon, seeing him perform is always a wonderful experience.

you can see the back of my head in the bottom right of this image :-)

I was at one of those Living Room gigs myself, September 11th last. Great show, very intimate but a bit short!

The Whelans show last night was great. I was impressed with his idea of selling the show on USB sticks 10 minutes after it ended... until I saw the price. €17?!

Yes, unfortunately the Living Room gigs are short, usually just under an hour, though he has played up to 75 minutes before.

Interesting on selling the live recordings, a friend of mine always records Tom's gigs in NYC and ups them to Dime... he asks Tom for permission to do so... I wonder if this means he may no longer allow tapers????
