'Carter' and 'The Son' are the newies. Carter was also written less than 24 hours ago, conveniently the day before my pre booked recording session at the studio! hoorah

Any comments and opinions much appreciated!

Oh, and coming soon is a rather epic cover of I Remember - 7 and a half minutes long!

Hey hollie. really liking your guitar work, very good, lyricaly i thought they were pretty decent. Carter was a bit sexually based, and i think you performed it well. Had a good mood to it. The son was brilliant, musiaclly and lyrically. What are you using to record?

I love your music Holly! The cello in 'The Son' is beautiful. Great job! If I hadn't spent the last twenty hours doing ****ing coursework I'd write a long post about why I love it but if you can just picture a really long and complementary post, this is what it is

Rob - I record at a studio near me with a producer called Dare Mason, and actually I must admit I know very little about the technical side of things... It all looks very expensive and complicated though!!

I just leave all the hard stuff to Dare - he's really good, used to work with Prince and Placebo back in the day

Also a lovely guy too, which helps.

Her name's Hannah, (though her nickname is cello, can't think why...) And she's lovely.

The first chord is F#m and it goes on from there, but if you play the following progression with a capo on 2nd, it will sound right:

Verses:

Em, F# over D, G
Em, F# over D, G
C, D, Em, D
C, D, G.

(The D's are not regular D's, they are a C shape slid up two frets, so that you're first finger is on the 3rd fret (5th, but I'm allowing for the capo) and so on.)

The instrumentals are a bit odd. I tell you what I'll do, because it's so awkward to explain in words exactly what I mean - I'll video myself playing it and then you can copy! That'll be much simpler. I'll try and have it up tonight somewhere

Wheeey, you weren't wrong about your cellist.

I'm going to be different and comment on Carter a bit more - it features fantastic guitar work and vocals, however in some parts i thought the lyrics were lacking substance, to me i think they can be a little deeper. They are catchy though, but i like something to think about and to really dig into, something interpretable and deep. Having said that, there's nothing wrong with them, it's just style i suppose, so it's just my opinion.
Same for The Son really, i mean, wonderful singing again along with the cello and melodic arpeggios. The lyrics were more what i was talking about with Carter, except i think more metaphors would really strengthen both songs in fact.

Obviously, it would be pretty messy to try to modify the lyrics of both songs, and in no way do they need them; they're both fantastic tracks. But, even if it's just as an excercise, try writing a song with more imagery and metaphors - writing a song based on a metaphor would be good practice in fact.

That's my opinion on things, hope it's of value to you. Oh and for god's sake, never stop playing music

Thanks Cal, I really appreciate comments like that, they're always really useful I think. Trouble is, I've never been much of a lyricist or poet - I don't know why but I just seem to find it really difficult to write metaphorically, which is why I admire people like Damien, and peope who can write poetry etc.

Though that said, there are a few metaphors in the son, just I suppose not ones that make any sense unless you're aware of the situation. For example, 'I came when you saw the sun, but the sky on that day was numb' is absolutely not literal, neither is 'but the light there had already gone' etc.

But yeah, thanks for the comments, I really appreciate it
