Without sounding like a geek...

They are AKG C12's and can be used on acoustic guitar and also vocals to great affect. However, they cost about £1500 each gutted....

However you can get guitar sounding pretty good with cheaper mikes and some clever EQing. Listen to the demo of "A Little Hope" on the music page of my site (www.aliwhitton.co.uk) and you can see how good the guitar sounds (hopefully).

Hope that's some help.

Ali

Too true Ali! DI-ing (direct injection) your acoustic guitar with a good DI box and some clever eq-ing and reverb can produce a very nice result. But if you really want to capture the acoustics of the guitar, then you can't go wrong with a carefully placed Shure SM57. It can give you a beautiful sound. Another solution, if you can't get your hands on the pro mics, is to plug the guitar into an amplifier, get it sounding good through the amp and then mic up the front of the amp with a SM57 and the back(if the amp is open-backed) of the amp with an AKG D-112, otherwise known as 'the egg', normally reserved for bass drum mic-ing. You can always mic the soundhole of the guitar too and mix all three mixes together which can produce a very wholesome sound. Then again, using just one mic can be just as effective.

A little too bright for my taste and you forgot to mention a key ingredient, a sweet preamp. Overall a decent dynamic mic but isn't really great in any department.. A neumann(particularly 184's or 140's) or schoeps condenser is the way to go if you really want to capture the steel string. My .02.
