Damien and the band performed “The Blower’s Daughter” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night. You can watch video of the performance on the videos page. Thanks again to Dan Heatherly for recording it for us. The Blower’s Daughter is featured in the new film “Closer”, which is now on general release in North America.
In relation to “Closer”, Billboard reports: Nichols was introduced to Rice’s music through Creative Artists Agency managing partner Brian Lourd after Rice performed at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. ‘I don’t think Mike Nichols could have found a better song,’ Vector co-founder Jack Rovner tells Billboard.com. ‘And Damien could not have written a better song for the film had he been asked. It was truly serendipitous.’”
Damien receives further praise in CNN’s review of the film – “The music by Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice is brilliant. His song, “The Blower’s Daughter,” opens and closes the film and completely captures the tone of the story. It’s worthy of an Academy Award nomination.”
